About The District The Cordova Recreation and Park District (CRPD) is one of the largest Independent Special Districts in Sacramento County. It encompasses 75 square miles with over 40 parks and facilities and 120,000 residents of extraordinary diversity. The District serves the park and recreation needs of the City of Rancho Cordova, Gold River, Mather, Rosemont, Larchmont, and additional unincorporated portions of Sacramento County. Over the next two decades, the District is expected to double the number of parks/facilities and new residents.
Class Summary Under general direction, the Marketing and Communication Specialist promotes District programs, parks, facilities and events; produces promotional, informational, and public relations materials; and builds awareness of the District's mission, vision and brand. This position assists with special events to market, photograph, and promote the District. Incumbents may oversee, monitor, and/or direct the work of lower level personnel.
Distinguishing Characteristics The Marketing and Communication Specialist works under the direction of a Department Head or other Senior Management Personnel. The Marketing and Communication Specialist class is distinguished from the Community Relations Coordinator by the difficulty and complexity of duties and the supervision of staff. This class is characterized by the responsibility to develop, manage, and coordinate policies, programs, and financial operations of a complex organization. Incumbents exercise decision-making authority.
The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices:
Develops and implements marketing materials.
Develops marketing strategies and media contacts.
Develops and produces promotional materials, including but not limited to activity guides, brochures, posters, flyers, press releases, public service announcements, newsletters and brochures, and various communications to staff and the public.
Advertising: creates, assists with design and places advertising as appropriate within budget, matching key messages with target audiences using appropriate medium (billboard, print, trade publications, TV, radio).
Coordinates public relations campaigns and initiatives to promote the District.
Collects, researches, and utilizes data to drive marketing practices.
Coordinates communications with civic and community groups.
Acts as a District liaison with various community groups and partnerships; and
Acts as a District liaison for consultants retained by the Districts to assist with communication and marketing messaging.
Works closely with other departments to identify and optimize communications opportunities, promote programs, events, parks, facilities, and other projects related to the communications plan.
Conducts program evaluations and surveys.
Responds to general customer service emails, phone calls and social media posts.
Assists in the coordination and implementation of District special events.
Attends non-District community events to market and promote the District.
Writes, edits and posts materials to the District website and other social media.
Coordinates media interviews and provides communication resources as requested by department staff.
Assists with the development and implementation of the District's sponsorship campaigns and plans strategies that identify product and target markets for sponsorship opportunities.
Ensures sponsorship and obligations are fulfilled including logo usage, recognition, placement and signage.
Manages sponsorship products and materials.
Provides direction and produces graphics for various departments and teams.
Oversees RFP review and development, and selection of outside vendors.
Maintains calendar of events.
Serves as spokesperson for the District when needed or requested.
Serves as communications consultant for District staff.
Responsible for administrative reports, records and correspondences that may be complex or sensitive.
Devises, modifies and/or supervises the maintenance and coordination of complex filing systems, records and mailings.
May attend Board meetings - regular and special as well as evening and weekend events as necessary.
The Marketing and Communication Specialist performs other related duties as assigned.

The Cordova Recreation and Park District is one of the largest Independent Special Districts in Sacramento County. It encompasses over 75 square miles with over 120,000 residents of extraordinary diversity. The District administers a total of 438 acres which include over 40 parks and facilities including neighborhood parks, community parks, two community swimming pools, the Community Center at Hag...an Park, Cordova Senior Activities Center, Mather Sports Center, Cordova Public Shooting Center, and the Cordova Golf Course. The District has great potential for future growth and expansion and during the next few decades anticipates approximately 70 new parks will be built in the southeastern portion of the District. During this time, the population is estimated to double in size. Additionally, resources continue to be available to renovate existing parks and facilities. This provides the District and its employees a unique opportunity and challenge to create a legacy of parks, facilities, and recreation programs for present and future generations.
