The Office of University Communications mission is to help the institution grow and prosper by increasing public awareness and preference for Portland State University.
The Associate Director of Marketing is responsible for the development and implementation of annual marketing strategies that support the University's strategic goals, enhance its brand image, and inspire enrollment, engagement and investment in the University. The position also manages Portland State's visual identity system, community relations, content marketing, and the marketing teams' projects. This position must work well across the organization and collaborate with unit marketing coordinators and in-house creative staff to successfully accomplish marketing and outreach goals.
The Associate Director of Marketing reports to the Director of Marketing in the Office of University Communications and co-supervises one staff member and several student employees. This is a full time (1.0 FTE) renewable 12-month appointment.
Bachelor's degree plus five years of applicable experience.
A proven track record of developing and executing integrated marketing strategies.
Experience representing and advocating for a business or organization.
Experience supervising staff and managing budgets.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including modest copywriting and editing.
Strong organizational and project management skills with exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to manage complex projects and to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
Understanding and knowledge of marketing principles and industry trends and direction, and a commitment to implementation of higher education industry marketing best practices.
Loyalty to the mission of public education and an understanding of the political parameters involved in working for a public institution.
Ability to prioritize workload according to ROI and manage in a complex environment.
Experience using a project management tool.
Web content management system experience.
Familiarity with design tools including Photoshop; experience with HTML, CSS and other Web technologies.
Experience working in a higher education environment.
