Position Summary: Information Technology Services at the University of California Office of the President is seeking a student intern. This is a paid internship designed for currently enrolled University of California students interested in information technology, including data visualization, quality assurance, and marketing/communications. Participants will:
*Propose, develop, implement, and present projects *Learn about IT operations *Gain experience working with IT managers and staff *Have the opportunity to attend an annual computing s services conference *Network with other interns at social and other events.
The IT Marketing and Communications Intern will help implement the CIO's vision for an integrated communications strategy that promotes community among UC's 7000 IT professionals and connects the IT function with the UC mission. The intern will use social media and other communications tools, and create content including blog articles, videos, graphics, photographs, and other marketing materials as needed.

These positions can be assigned up to 50% time with the possibility of extension.
Job Close Date:
Duty 1: Propose, research, and develop articles for a weekly blog. Propose and develop other content, such as graphic designs, photos, videos, and promotional pieces, depending on skills and interest. Develop ideas and content to create engaging and visually interesting presentations and websites. Assist with developing and implementing marketing communications plans. Employ analytics and visualization to measure and impart the effectiveness of social media and other marketing strategies. Participate in communications team meetings. Function:Communications Percent: 50
Duty 2: Develop sustainable strategies for using social media tools to increase communications and collaboration within the IT community across the UC system.
Monitor and provide support for social media communications. Monitor and provide support for social media strategies, including Twitter, Instagram, Slack, and LinkedIn. Function:Social Media Percent: 30
Duty 3: Provide a new perspective on connecting the IT function at UC with customers and the University's mission.
Explore and develop ideas for improving communications and collaboration across the IT function, including facilitating dialog with different constituencies, such as students, faculty, and staff about how technology can be used to improve the university experience.
Participate in meetings by phone and/or video conference. Function:Strategy Percent: 10
Duty 4: Provide planning, logistics, and support for events such as town halls, webinars, virtual hangouts, etc. Develop and lead activities to encourage and promote ideas and interaction, such as contests, blog discussions, and use of communications platforms Function:Events and Interactive Forums Percent: 10
Job Requirements - Currently enrolled as a University of California student.
- An interest in information technology and desire to learn.
- Strong interpersonal and oral communications skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to write for a general, non-technical audience. Ability to edit the work of others.
- Demonstrated interest in improving writing and editing skills.
- Knowledge of and familiarity with social media communications tools and strategies, and familiarity with basic marketing and content strategy concepts.
- Experience with a variety of social media, presentation, layout/design, and office technologies.
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to be flexible and adaptable as priorities evolve.
- Ability to work well with ambiguity and experimentation, and to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. Required
