Visit North Carolina, part of the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina (EDPNC) (www.edpnc.com), is actively recruiting for a Director of Tourism Marketing. The EDPNC oversees tourism promotion in addition to other business units of new business recruitment, existing industry support, international trade development and small business counseling for the state of North Carolina. EDPNC’s mission is the improve the economic well-being and quality of life for all North Carolinians.
The Senior Manager, Tourism Marketing, (Director of Tourism Marketing) will direct North Carolina’s tourism brand positioning, building upon a foundation of research driven strategic plans. The position will utilize marketing and advertising tactics that leverage North Carolina’s attributes and amplify the voice of partner DMOs statewide. The manager will provide a consistent, synergetic message that amplifies the state’s scenic beauty, landscape, sights, sounds and flavors bringing to life the stories and characters of the state from the mountains to the sea while representing Visit North Carolina with industry partners and clients.
Key functions of the position include, but are not limited to:
Manage and oversee the state’s research-based tourism advertising and marketing efforts directed to domestic consumers and serves as the primary liaison for the state’s contracted advertising/marketing agency of record.
Leads, oversees and develops staff assigned to areas of marketing, advertising, social media, digital programs, and public relations (currently a staff of 6) and facilitates any future RFPs for agencies of record in those programs.
Manage VisitNC.com and the continual evolution of the ‘family of sites’ that serves as the primary inspirational North Carolina travel-planning source.
Oversee production of the state’s annual Travel Guide and fulfillment of the guide through VisitNC.com, the tourism call center, welcome centers and other outlets; advocate for revenue goals and partner participation in Travel Guide.
Oversee, and grow investment in, the office’s cooperative advertising partner programs that provide travel industry partners with opportunities for maximizing exposure for their own destination or property.
Coordinate efforts of collaboration with the NC Department of Commerce’s Tourism Call Center and the state’s nine Welcome Centers with VisitNC staff and connecting VisitNC.com and the NC Travel Guide as key resources.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
- Bachelor’s degree preferred, high school diploma or GED required
- Minimum 5 years marketing experience required; 3 years in tourism destination marketing fields preferred
- Use sound judgement to make good decisions based while completing work in a timely manner
- Skilled in relationship building and networking with a diverse population of organizations and associations
- Team orientation and ability to work effectively with peers, subordinates and supervisors
- Highly developed oral and written communication skills
