![]() University of California Irvine DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS & MARKETING Updated: Jan 29, 2021 Location: UC Irvine Campus Job Type: Department: PUBLIC HEALTH/ ADMINISTRATION Job Opening ID: 15014 Reports To: Academic Program Management Officer IV Working Title: Director of Communications & Marketing Department: Public Health/Administration Bargaining Unit: 99 FLSA: Exempt Payroll Job Code: 005887 Job Location: UCI Campus- Irvine Percent of Time: 100% Work Schedule: 8-5 M-F Employee Class: Career Position Summary: The Program in Public Health was established in 2003 to advance the collaborative interdisciplinary mission of public health research, education, and service with the end goal of enhancing health and wellbeing locally, nationally, and domestically. In July 2020, the Program in Public Health expanded from one department, Department of Population and Public Health, to include the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Department of Environmental and Occupational Health, and the Department of Health, Society and Behavior. The Director of Communications & Marketing for UCI's Program in Public Health is a senior-level management position in the Office of the Dean, SPPH. Working directly with the Dean, and the Director of Administration and Strategic Planning, the director leads the strategic direction and implementation of all marketing and communications activities for while the program transitions to a School within in the Samueli College of Health Sciences (public and media relations, executive communications, student recruitment, alumni and donor communications via web, print, video and social distribution). This position requires broad expert experience and technical knowledge in the following areas: strategic-level marketing and communications planning; media relations; relationship management; issues communications; writing; publication and graphic design; photography; video conceptualization and production; social media development and deployment; communications policy development and implementation; and supervision and budgetary planning. Position reports directly to the dean of the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. Compensation Range: Commensurate with Experience Department Website: http://publichealth.uci.edu/ph/_home/ Required: 8 to 10 years of relevant experience. Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training. Advanced knowledge and understanding of all aspects of communications, including strategic planning for various media venues, technical aspects and requirements of various venues, and most appropriate and effective applications. Advanced knowledge and understanding of technical applications to direct professional technical staff, or personally perform technical work, including design concepts, various media, and applications. Advanced knowledge of the organization, including its mission, vision, goals, policies, and infrastructure; strong knowledge of current affairs and issues in higher education and / or health sciences. Advanced skills to create, develop, and implement long and short term strategic communication plans. Advanced skills to advise and consult management on all aspects of communications, ranging from developing effective communication strategies to appropriately responding to inquiries regarding sensitive or complex issues or information. Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal communications, active listening and political acumen skills. Excellent analytical, critical thinking, project management, and problem recognition, avoidance, and resolution skills. Thorough knowledge of location protocols and channels for communication internally and externally. Preferred: Master's degree in related area. Final candidate subject to background check.
