The University of Maryland, School of Nursing (UMSON) is currently recruiting for an Assistant Director, Marketing and Digital Communications .
The Assistant Director of Marketing and Digital Communications is one of five team members in the University of Maryland School of Nursing's Office of Communications and is primarily responsible for all aspects of the School's web and social media/digital content management, including paid advertising placements, especially as it relates to recruitment and marketing, from content planning to implementation to evaluation via appropriate metrics.
The Assistant Director of Marketing and Digital Communications is an expert in the School's web content management system and oversees other content managers' use of the system. The position also contributes strategy and project management for and writes and edits content for digital and print materials, including recruitment publications and advertising, and will serve as a content planner, writer and editor for the School's biannual magazine, Nursing For|um.
The position reports to the Director of Marketing and Public Relations. The Assistant Director supports the director in ensuring the office's success in meeting its goals efficiently and effectively. This position also directly supervises the marketing specialist, who provides support for digital communications and more.
The ideal candidate has clear and effective communication, writing, editing, and proofreading skills; knowledge of best practices for marketing and web and social media content management; and an ability to interface at all levels of the School and University. Tasks require strong attention to detail and the ability to work as a member of a team and under tight deadlines.

Develop and manage the School's website content and information architecture and social media content across multiple platforms in addition to creating and managing organic and paid social media marketing. Responsible for metrics to inform future strategy via appropriate analytics tools.
Contribute to and provide project management for marketing/advertising strategy and creative development.
Provide superior writing and editing for various digital and print publications and monitor and enforce consistency with and adherence to the UMB and UMSON style guides.
Supervise the marketing specialist.
Develop overarching strategy for effectiveness and efficiency of the office.
With other team members, plan, write, and edit the School's biannual magazine.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Education: Bachelor's degree. Degree in marketing, advertising, communications, journalism, or related field of study is preferred. Master's degree preferred.
Experience: Six (6) years of experience in marketing, public relations, communications, or media, public, or client relations.
Preferred Experience: Experience in journalism or web content management preferred. Experience in higher education with understanding of its organizational, communications and time-management challenges and opportunities preferred.
Supervisory Experience: One (1) year in work coordination, training, and daily oversight of staff including performance management. Two (2) years in work coordination, training, and daily oversight of staff including performance management preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Knowledge of website usability concepts, such as information architecture and navigational aids; familiar with current and emerging internet technologies, including experience using content management and email marketing systems. Possess a thorough knowledge of communicating and marketing via social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, and YouTube, and of related best practices. Strong attention to detail and the ability to work as a member of a team and under tight deadlines. Proven experience revealing leadership, creativity, and innovation and high-level project and time management skills. Knowledge of how to uphold and apply institutional editorial style; familiarity with Associated Press style. Maintain high standards with the work being performed and maintain awareness with trends and influences. Assume personal responsibility for all outcomes; make effective and timely decisions. Maintain productivity and use knowledge strategies to increase knowledge base. Able to make independent decisions that are a matter of significance for the unit. Strong communication skills in oral and written thoughts, ideas, and facts, proofreading and editing. Write and present information in a clear and concise way. Interpret and understand written information and is able to listen attentively to verbal and non-verbal cues that lead to a deeper understanding. Ability to work cooperatively with others and demonstrate professional, ethical, respectful, and courteous behavior when interacting with others. Able to take a lead role in performing and directing various advanced activities. Perform independent projects and serve as a consultant in area of technical specialty in digital content. Demonstrate pleasant and positive interactions with others to meet customer expectations, and provide follow up with customers. Reach compromise and consensus to influence and negotiate.
Hiring Range: Mid-$80,000s to mid-$90,000s; Commensurate with education and experience
