Position Description Reporting to the Director of Marketing, Sales, and Patron Services, the Graphic Designer develops and maintains standards for The Dallas Opera’s visual identity across the organization. This position is responsible for producing all direct mail, digital, and print materials, video and multi-media assets, and email communications from concept to creation. Responsibilities Concept and Design • Create, develop, and manage the visual identity for all TDO departments, including marketing and advertising, education, community engagement, digital stage, and fundraising. • Translate concepts from season brochure (created by external design counsel) throughout all other marketing materials, refreshing brand template design annually. • Create direct mail, email, digital, and print design templates for each season. • Collaborate with team members to address design needs and strategize solutions. • Maintain brand standards and guide staff on correct use of assets. • Assist with photo shoots and selecting photography, as necessary. • Collaborate with members of the marketing, public relations, and artistic teams in video production as assigned. Production • Design all print materials including program books, print advertising, brochures, postcards, flyers, order forms, envelopes, etc. • Design assets for digital display advertising, website graphics, and email communications. • Resize images for multiple website applications. • Manage all workflow through Asana project management system, maintain timely communication, and ensure all production and delivery deadlines are met. • Develop and manage relationships with print vendors, secure print bids, and cost-effective solutions for all printed materials. • Maintain digital archive of all projects and work with Director of IT to ensure adequate storage space and routine back-up. • Maintain established architecture of asset library for photos, videos, logos, etc. • Attend press checks as needed. Team Responsibilities • Attend and actively participate in all team meetings and meetings with direct supervisor as required. • Collaborate with Digital Stage & Artist Development Administrator, attend weekly production meetings, and stay apprised of content production and campaigns for thedallasopera.TV content, including tdo network. • Ensure compliance with usage rights for audio and video clips in accordance with union and media agreements. • Provide additional digital media support for institutional efforts as directed by supervisor. • Maintain positive relationships with staff members and patrons. Attend performances and assist with event, Front of House, and Patron Services tasks as needed.
Candidate Qualities Traits and Characteristics • Creative collaborator with customer service mindset and proven ability to build productive working relationships internally and externally. • Aptitude for multitasking, prioritizing, attention to detail, and managing time in a challenging environment which often presents competing priorities. • Strong project management and organizational skills; accepts responsibility for quality, accuracy, and timeliness of assignments. Skills and Knowledge • 5 years of print and digital graphic design experience, preferably in an organization that presents events. • Strong proficiency in the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign) • Experience in all areas of video production, including equipment, lighting, shooting, audio, and editing strongly preferred. • Experience designing and producing within email platforms (Prospect2, WordFly, MailChimp, PatronMail, etc.) • Portfolio demonstrating skills in both design and conceptual thinking in various media including print and digital. • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and collaborating in a Microsoft 365 environment. • Familiarity with Canva and digital project management systems (Asana, Basecamp, Trello, Jira). • Broad understanding of basic marketing principles. • Strong written communication skills, including proofreading, grammar, and spelling skills. • Knowledge of classical music, opera, and Dallas arts and culture a plus. Education Bachelor’s degree preferred Location Dallas, Texas Office Hours 9am to 5pm except for evening rehearsal, performance, and special event dates. On those occasions, office hours will be flexible and mutually agreed.
