Vice President for Communications and Marketing
Bryant Group is partnering with the University of Washington to recruit the role of Vice President for Communications and Marketing (VP).
The University of Washington seeks a passionate and experienced leader to assume the role of Vice President for Communications and Marketing (VP). In alignment with the values and goals of the University of Washington (UW) and University Advancement, the VP will provide executive leadership for marketing and communications at the UW and lead the University Marketing and Communications (UMAC) team.
UMAC's scope includes leading and executing: University wide brand strategy and management; campaign/Advancement fundraising and community marketing; multi-media creative campaigns and events for University priorities; University web and digital strategy; market research, insights and analytics, including the UW's primary social media and digital communications; trademarks and licensing; University sponsorships; UW News and media relations; presidential, administrative and internal communications; public relations; and issues management.
The UW has prioritized marketing and communications work against the following four goals: 1. Attract and develop Washington and the world's most promising students. 2. Grow public and private support for the UW's shared vision. 3. Be a destination for world-class faculty and staff. 4. Grow internal passion for what the University stands for.
The VP reports to and partners with the Senior Vice President of University Advancement and serves as a member of University Advancement's Executive Strategy Team (EST).
The VP leads a team of 80 FTEs, including managing and collaborating with six direct reports: • Assistant Vice President for Brand Marketing Strategy • Assistant Vice President for Communications • Assistant Vice President for Media Relations/University Spokesperson • Director of Budget and Operations • Executive Assistant • Executive Creative Director
Together, the University Advancement (UA) team works to realize the UW's vision to be the greatest public university in the world as measured by its impact. UA serves to activate the mission and highest ideals of the University of Washington by enhancing and protecting the University's reputation, facilitating and growing resources, and equitably supporting and serving communities.
UW Advancement's fully integrated model relies on a deep understanding of stakeholder behavior and requires all disciplines of Advancement to work collaboratively, synergistically and consistently to move audiences – individually and at scale – from awareness, through understanding and appreciation, to deep personal ownership of the institution.
The Advancement team is exceptionally high performing, with approximately 600 full-time employees, more than 80 of whom report through the Vice President for Communications and Marketing. The UW Foundation and UW Alumni Association are strategically aligned and administered in partnership with University Advancement and the broader University.
