Communications and Marketing Coordinator
The George Mason University Libraries is seeking an enthusiastic, experienced, skillful, and collaborative person for the position of Communications and Marketing Coordinator in the Administration unit of the Office of the Dean of Libraries and University Librarian.

About the Position:
Reporting to the Libraries' Director of Communications, Grants and Marketing, the Communications and Marketing Coordinator will assist in the development and execution of communications and marketing in support of the Libraries' various units, teams, programs, and strategic priorities. The incumbent will contribute to and perform internal and external communications and effect outreach initiatives for sharing of information and building affinity and support among students, faculty, alumni, donors, and friends.
Responsibilities:
The position's role encompasses focus on the following priorities:
- Communications – support the overall communications efforts of the Libraries, through writing, editing, proofreading and ensuring adherence to University Brand in all created assets;
- Marketing – assist with the development and implementation of multi-faceted and multi-channel campaigns that connect the Libraries to key constituencies;
- Social Media – develop and manage a comprehensive social media strategy for the Libraries, to include assessing current channels and proposing solutions, as well as crafting messaging and proposing ideas for special campaigns; and
- Graphic Design – design, brand, produce, and disseminate promotional materials (e.g., posters, signage, programs, handouts, etc.) in support of Libraries' initiatives and events; create/edit photography and videos (or liaise with relevant office or vendors to arrange creation of assets).
Required Qualifications:
Applicants should bring the following knowledge, skills, and abilities to this position:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience, preferably in the communications or marketing disciplines;
- Experience managing social media channels/platforms;
- Experience or training in digital marketing and graphic design;
- Experience with content management systems (WordPress, etc.);
- Demonstrated experience in communications or marketing;
- Demonstrated written and oral communications skills;
- Proficiency with Microsoft Suite and Adobe Creative cloud software;
- Attention to detail; and
- Ability to prioritize tasks and effectively manage duties.
Preferred Qualifications:
The following education and/or skill sets are preferred:
- Ability to learn new software/content systems quickly;
- Photography and/or videography experience; and
- Two or more (2+) years of related experience.
