The Director of Strategic Marketing will be responsible for providing leadership strategies to elevate and amplify the university brand and message in support of the University's strategic imperatives, with a primary focus on enrollment. With keen knowledge of and expertise in digital platforms, the position will conceptualize and operationalize paid media campaigns and use analytics to inform and guide ongoing efforts.
Reporting to the Vice President, Strategic Marketing and Communications/Chief Marketing Officer, the Director of Strategic Marketing will oversee both brand and recruitment marketing activities to meet the goals of the institution, including its schools and colleges: the School of Business and Society, School of Education, and the College of Arts and Sciences. As a key collaborator, this position will liaise with partners both internally and externally to manage marketing programs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Responsible for creating, implementing, and evaluating marketing strategies that help to drive revenue growth.
Leads university brand and reputational efforts; collaborate with outside partners to measure brand health
Collaborates with schools and departments on recruitment marketing initiatives
Oversees paid media campaigns, with a special focus on digital channels
Ensures alignment of messaging and media plans across the University, its schools and departments.
In collaboration with the CMO, Enrollment Management, and Academic Affairs prioritizes marketing of academic programs and the alignment of resources (staff and budget) with those priorities.
Provides leadership to the Strategic Marketing and Communication team, aligning the team's work with that of colleagues across Marketing and Communications and with campus partners to deeply align their work with the university's strategies.
Leads, manages, and coordinates university branding effort and coordinate with related outside partners.
Manages relationships with external consultants focused on specific deliverables and results.
Recommends and manages market research activities, as needed, to support marketing and brand objectives.

Any combination equivalent to, but not limited to, the following:
Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, MBA, or a related field from an accredited University.
Master's degree in Marketing, Communications, MBA, or related fields from an accredited University is preferred.
Minimum of 5 years with a preference for 7 or more years of progressive responsible experience in overseeing a complex, multi-faceted marketing and digital, branding, creative or design organization within a company, university, or agency with at least three years in a leadership position; preferably in higher education but not required.
Prior experience in positioning and packaging work for key product offerings.
Knowledge of and familiarity with higher education environments and admissions recruiting is preferred.
Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred.
A valid California Class C CA drivers' license with a safe driving record is required.
Knowledge and Skills:
Knowledge of marketing and advertising principles, including measurement and analytics with a track record of fostering creativity across multiple mediums.
Skills in digital campaign development and implementation including experience with media planning.
Ability to manage and track spending and budget efficiently.
Outstanding editorial, written, verbal, interpersonal, and presentation skills including the ability to eloquently convey branding vision and priorities to administration, faculty, staff, students, and outside constituencies.
Ability to manage multiple complex projects and priorities.
Ability to connect the dots between in-market metrics to institutional data.]
Knowledge of brand management and stewardship as well as developing and maintaining identity standards.
Fluency with analytics and demonstrated experience using data to inform decisions.
Must be able to competently interact with a culturally and ethnically diverse population of students, faculty, and staff.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
Standard office and field setting. Duties performed are primarily in an office environment while sitting at a desk or computer workstation or in meetings. At least minimal environmental controls to assure health and comfort. Must be willing and able to work evening and weekend hours as well as travel to regional campuses and attend University events outside normal business hour as required.
Incumbents regularly sit for long periods; walk short distances on a regular basis; travel to various locations to attend meetings and conduct work; use hands and fingers to operate an electronic keyboard or other office machines; reach with hands and arms; stoop or kneel or crouch to file; speak clearly and distinctly to answer telephones and to provide information; see to read fine print and operate computer; hear and understand voices over telephone and in person; and lift, carry and/or move objects weighing up to 10 pounds.
