Greater Birmingham Convention & Visitors Bureau is seeking a dynamic Vice President of Marketing and Communications. This position will provide active leadership for the marketing team with global knowledge of a marketing brand mix to include social media, advertising, and all public relations with local and national media outlets.
The successful candidate will possess the ability to efficiently multitask with strong attention to detail. With limited guidance, effectively prioritize and react with appropriate levels of urgency to timely situations and events. This person will be highly self-motivated with a strong sense of initiative. Must have the ability to anticipate needs and be a driving force in keeping leaders and teams organized. The ideal candidate will also have exceptional verbal and written communication skills and the ability to think critically and solve problems. High levels of integrity and discretion in handling confidential information is crucial.

Must be flexible and open to ideas coming from all areas and levels of the organization, but also confident and decisive, with the courage of their convictions, and be able to make tough calls when necessary. Must possess a tremendous drive to excel and have an extensive background of marketing and sales experience.
JOB TITLE: Vice President of Marketing and Communications
FLSA STATUS: Exempt
Plan, direct and coordinate all oral, written and advertised marketing for organization. As a member of the senior management team, input on GBCVB initiatives is expected.
Reports to: President
Supervises: Director of Web Marketing, Director of Travel Media, and Creative Director
Interacts with: All staff, industry representatives, city and county representatives, all media outlets, and elected officials; advertising agency

Research, develop, and track the ROI of the CVB’s annual Marketing plan and advertising budget. Compile and produce updates of the marketing plan
Prepare advertising budget and coordinate all activities of the bureau advertising agency and manage departmental expenses to ensure budgetary compliance
Supervise and create the preparation of creative themes and copy for print and broadcast ads
Develop and maintain a strong working knowledge and positive relationship with all operating departments to better promote and understand individual, team and company goals
Develop relationships with media management and reporters and serve as media spokesperson on various promotional topics
Serve as media spokesperson for Bureau in absence of President and handling all media requests in a prompt and timely manner
Manage and supervise writing, editing, and photography requests as needed. Provide and write editorial content for various media outlets as needed
Manage and oversee all external company communications including but not limited to, the visitors guide, e-mail initiatives, social media, website functions, print pieces, ads, articles, news releases, travel writer initiatives, audio visual presentations, and marketing programs that will enhance all departments in their efforts to sell hotel rooms
Knowledge of tourism industry data and research to guide market driven decisions
Performance Management and Departmental and Staff Goal Setting
Knowledge of media buying
Ability to handle the news media for both soft and hard news interviews
Excellent written and verbal communications skills

Required Education and Experience
The following qualifications are the minimum requirements necessary to adequately perform this job. However, any equivalent combination of experience, education and training which provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities would be acceptable, subject to any legal and/or regulatory requirements.
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications or Journalism
Ten years in sales, advertising, and marketing capacity in related industry
Ten years in leadership role
Preferred Education and Experience
Ten years in DMO/Tourism related marketing field and five years in senior level management capacity
Creative mind and writing ability
Extensive knowledge of all travel market segments
Ability to supervise employees in diverse job responsibilities
Ability to work with local community leaders with visionary thinking
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and other office machines.
This is a full-time position and office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 am – 5 pm
This position may be required to travel overnight throughout the United States and may on occasion be international, via airplane.
As a member of senior staff, a car allowance is a benefit of this position. This allowance is paid in the form of a 1099. Amount of allowance is listed with HR. Some local travel may apply.
