Essential Functions: JOB PURPOSECreate and implement a comprehensive strategic marketing, communication, and public relations plan to support the goals and missions of the School of Business Administration. Manage the Marketing and Communications Department for the School of Business Administration including collaborating with other staff and units within the School, the University, and the business community.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSManage the marketing, communication, and public relations functions within the school. Monitor, review, and report on all marketing and communication activities and their results.Manage the department's operating budget. Develop, submit and monitor department budget to ensure operations are conducted within approved allocations.Perform personnel management function for the workgroup. Hire, train, evaluate and discipline assigned support personnel.Establish the School's presence/visibility on social media and integrate social media into the School's marketing plan.Conduct market and opinion research to determine market requirements for existing and future credit and non-credit programs and events.Write Marketing copy and oversee the School Website.Represent the school at community and business gatherings.Counsel faculty and staff in effective ways of communicating with the public.Interface/collaborate with Vice President for Marketing and Communications and his/her staff, dean of the school, development office, departments, Graduate Programs Office, and Office of Undergraduate Student Services to implement the strategic marketing plan.Perform related duties as assigned.
Qualifications: EDUCATIONBachelor's degree in marketing, communications or other related discipline from an accredited college or university. Master's degree preferred.EXPERIENCEMinimum of five years experience in a marketing and/or communications role with increasing levels of responsibility. Minimum of two years in a management or supervisory role.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIESORGANIZATIONAL SKILLS: Ability to plan and set strategic direction for marketing and communication efforts and the ability to work and lead a variety of people and situations. Need to be able to articulate the mission of Wayne State University and the School of Business to many constituencies.MANAGEMENT SKILLS: Ability to train, motivate and develop subordinate staff. Ability to set and implement a self-directed agenda. Ability to delegate effectively, including monitoring and feedback on delegated tasks. Consensus building skills. Excellent ability to prioritize work assignments to meet deadlines. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with all levels of management in Client organizations throughout the University.PLANNING/ORGANIZATIONAL SKILLS: Ability to prioritize and plan work activities and develop strategies to achieve organizational goals, develop realistic action plans PROBLEM SOLVING SKILLS: Ability to identify and resolve problems, develop alternative approaches and meets challenges with resourcefulness. CUSTOMER SERVICE SKILLS: Responds to customer needs and practices follow-up to ensure customer needs are met. COMMUNICATIONS SKILLS: Ability to interact and articulate sensitively with students, faculty, staff, and administrator in a multicultural and diverse community. Excellent written and oral communication skills.TECHNICAL SKILLS: Strong copywriting, editing and proofreading skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously, often under tight deadlines. Must be a self-starter, highly organized, and possess top level business management, interpersonal, presentation and facilitation skills. COMPUTER SKILLS: Proficient in Microsoft Office and Windows-based computer applications.
