Working closely with the Associate AD for External Operations, the Director of Marketing and Fan Engagement will provide leadership and strategic direction for the marketing and fan engagement unit within Athletics. This position will be responsible for developing marketing plans for revenue generation sports, leading game entertainment at home Viking Athletics events, lead all on-campus and student marketing initiatives, as well as the coordination of community engagement, outreach activities, and advertising that promotes Viking Athletics. This position will also oversee the mascot program, spirit squads, and robust student street team.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Game Entertainment and Fan Experience •Lead and plan all game entertainment and promotional efforts at home athletics events, including promotional giveaways, music, on-court promotions and presentations •Write game scripts for home events, working with sponsorship team in ensuring activation of agreements •Direct game entertainment efforts at football, men’s basketball women’s basketball and volleyball •Work closely with the video production team to create engaging content for in-game videoboard usage. •Coordinate with any third-party vendors producing in-game related content such as intro videos
Marketing, Advertising and Engagement
•Manage grassroots marketing initiatives on campus and in the community •Foster relationships and develop partnerships with campus units and student organization while serving on campus programming committees •Provide oversight of any community and student outreach and revenue generation programs •Assist with planning and executing student and community-based marketing, promotion. and revenue generation plans including advertising strategies •Manage email communication strategy, including creating high quality content, timely delivery and analytical evaluation of results.
Social Media and Creative Services
•Coordinate with Communications staff on social media strategy and marketing related content •Assist in developing content strategy for fan engagement and general athletics content •Oversight of coordinating with social media coordinator, video production, graphic design and potential third party vendors in creation and production of content
Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree in marketing, sports management or related field is required.
At least two (2) years of experience working in college athletics or a professional sports setting
Experience with developing marketing plans and executing promotions
Demonstrated excellence with verbal, written, and communication skills
A track record in building quality relationships
