CMU is seeking a strategic and innovative Marketing Data Analyst to support our marketing team with proven excellence in analytical and data storytelling skills and the ability to understand how to translate metrics into formal reports and insights to inform and guide strategy! This position will craft regular reports for senior leadership measuring important metrics across earned, owned and paid media efforts. They will collect and analyze data, to identify strategic useful insights for marketing and communications on behalf of this premier institution.
This position will be the University Communication & Marketing (UCM) division's analytical guide and consultant, working seamlessly and collaboratively with partners across the U&M division and manage research vendors as required. The Marketing Analyst will regularly benchmark peer/aspirational institutions and industry standards to develop best practices and stay on top of the latest trends and tools to apply to CMU's efforts. They will work with the Strategy team to outline and develop key performance indicators and critical metrics against established goals, and with the analysis of data, they will provide practical recommendations to guide marketing and communications strategies to reach those goals in the areas of social media, websites, emails, visitor experience, integrated marketing campaigns, news coverage, etc. The Analyst will also be a part of campus socialization efforts to expand awareness and connection to data tracking and functional metrics.
This position will join a new team for brand strategy within the office of communications and marketing, reporting to the Director of Strategy. They will use data to inform, optimize and improve marketing and communications efforts for the university, CMU's individual schools and colleges, key units such as undergraduate admission, and standalone coordinated marketing campaigns.
Responsibilities:
- Collect and lead the analysis of data to identify strategic insights for marketing and communications efforts for the university.
- Establish key performance indicators based on outlined goals for the division's marketing and communications efforts and for other college/school, unit, or initiative as assigned
- Develop dashboards to guide performance measurement and reporting
- Build and present reports that synthesizes relevant data, indicates progress via important metrics, evaluates the efficiency of messaging, tactics, and overall campaigns to drive marketing strategy
- Inform and help guide audience strategy: increase understanding of audience insights - individuals and/or group characteristics and behaviors and aid in defining segmentation strategies by finding opportunities to increase awareness and engagement within audience segments
- Benchmark and research efforts against peer and aspirational institutions, as well as industry leaders
- Stay up to speed on trends and tools for data collection and analysis
- Develop surveys as required to capture additional metrics needed for targeted efforts
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have a confident, can-do attitude with strong problem-solving skills and outstanding attention to detail. They will have strengths in analytical thinking and business sense with a demonstrated ownership of data, embracing big picture objectives and follow through on details. A proven understanding of data analysis with the ability to know what is significant and reliable data worth tracking, reviewing, and reporting on. And they will be able to adeptly digest the information with the ability to creatively and articulately propose innovative marketing and communications strategies based on data.

- Minimum of 5 years related experience
- Excellent statistical and analytical skills
- Google analytics (GA4) certification
- Experience using marketing analytics tools like Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, SEMRush
- Expertise in data visualization and storytelling using interactive tools (ie. Tableau, Looker, Power BI)
- Experience in leading the development of communication and marketing strategies in collaboration with individuals and groups across organizational lines
- Ability to segment analytical findings and insights for varying audiences and programs
- Understanding of A/B testing, SEO and SEM
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Demonstrated commitment to work within a diverse environment and interact openly with individuals of different backgrounds
- Bachelor's degree in marketing, advertising, communications, business administration or related quantitative field such as statistics or mathematics. Or a combination of education and relevant field experience from which comparable knowledge and skills have been acquired.
Preferred Qualifications:
* 7-10 years relevant experience
* Experience in higher education
* Familiarity and experience with Salesforce Marketing Cloud
* Familiarity and experience with Slate or other email and CRM tools
* Proficiency in survey development and result analysis
* Experience performing A/B testing, SEO, SEM
* Google Studio Data Studio training completion
Additional Information:
- This position resides at CMU's Pittsburgh, Oakland campus. Ability to travel to on, off and other campus locations as requested. Will have contact with computer monitor for long periods of time; evening and weekend hours may be required.
