More than a college, Wellesley is a force for change in the world. Every day, we prove Wellesley’s founding radical idea—that educating women leads to progress for everyone.
A Wellesley education prepares students to realize their own highest ambitions and aspirations—and they do. Widely acknowledged to be one of the nation’s premier colleges and the top women’s college, we are unparalleled in educating path-breaking women in every arena.
The Office of Communications & Public Affairs seeks a senior director of marketing communications to lead all strategic marketing and branding efforts on behalf of the College. Reporting to the vice president of communications and Global Engagement, the senior director collaborates with all members of C&PA, as well as with multiple departments across campus, to coordinate marketing and communications efforts that support the strategic priorities of the College.
The senior director leads marketing and promotion for some of the College’s most important and visible events and conferences, especially those which further the College’s strategic goals to promote Wellesley in the World. The Senior Director partners closely with the executive director of the Wagner Centers for Wellesley in the World, whose work includes shaping the College’s external relations and global engagement strategy including managing major convenings focused on urgent social challenges, developing and maintaining strategic academic and philanthropic partnerships, and working with campus and external partners on strategic initiatives that advance Wellesley’s reputation and engagement in the world.
The senior director also serves as chief brand identity officer for the College, ensuring all communications reinforce the College’s mission and brand positioning and support its key messages. The successful candidate oversees communications for Wellesley’s centers and institutes, and serves as the liaison for Admission, Development, and the Alumnae Association, advising on major initiatives and communications efforts. As the College prepares for its next comprehensive fundraising campaign, this person will be responsible for overseeing the development of key components of the campaign including case statement, campaign videos, and branding. The Senior Director will coordinate with development staff, Wellesley’s creative agency, and additional campaign staff to develop strategic marketing materials that powerfully articulate the priorities of the campaign to key audiences.
The senior director currently supervises a project manager, who supports the execution of a range of projects for which the director is responsible, and is responsible for leading the work of the creative services team within Communications & Public Affairs. The senior director oversees the marketing and creative services budget, including forecasting and capital planning. They oversee and coordinate the contributions of all participating team members and external partners to implement these plans effectively, staying on top of progress, keeping the vice president and other relevant colleagues in the loop, and ensuring scheduled milestones are met and reports on results..
When the College launches its upcoming comprehensive fundraising campaign, the senior director will oversee additional members of the campaign communications team.
