Job Description The Director of Marketing and Communications will provide marketing and communications leadership and support for the College of Medicine, working with the Dean, the Chief of Staff, the Wexner Medical Centers (WMC) Chief Communications and Marketing Officer (CCMO), COM senior leaders, and collaborating closely with academic and support units across the university. The Director is responsible for directing all aspects of communication and marketing for the COM in support of our ambition to be a leading college of medicine that transforms the health of our communities through inclusive and innovative education, discovery and care. The Director serves as a hands-on working leader who is expected to write, edit and produce a variety of communications and content. The Director will develop marketing and communications strategies that inspire trust, confidence and understanding among the COMs key stakeholders by leveraging marketing, media relations, issues management, social media, internal communications, and community relations. The Director reports to the CCMO, with a dotted-line to the Deans Chief of Staff. The Director will develop comprehensive strategies to advance the reputation of the organization both internally and externally; lead best-in-class communications that protect, promote and enhance the COM; foster strong relationships with key stakeholders (including media, community leaders and organizations, current and prospective faculty, staff, and learners; and alumni); collaborate with leaders and teams across the COM, the WMC and the university, including University Communications, ensuring alignment of the COM marketing and communications plan with broader medical center and university messages and initiatives; and serve as an ambassador of the COM.
Minimum Education Required Bachelors degree with a major in marketing, communication, public relations, journalism, or other related field required or equivalent experience.
Required Qualifications
The candidate should be an experienced leader and marketing and communications strategist and content creator focused on business objectives. They are a brand champion and must be able to create strategic marketing plans, creative briefs and communications to achieve short- and long-term goals and priorities. They also must be an experienced and proficient writer and editor. They are a team leader and a great collaborator who is able to build and maintain relationships both with department team members and clients.
Bachelors degree with a major in communications, marketing or related area or equivalent experience. Minimum of 7 years experience in marketing, communications, digital media, or a related field, with proven track record of delivering results. Outstanding language skills, verbal and written, must be demonstrated. Ability to manage diverse projects and a high stress environment must be demonstrated. Requires successful completion of a background check. Selected candidate may be requested to complete a pre-employment physical including a drug screen.
Desired Education & Qualifications
Master's degree preferred, with 10 or more years of relevant experience.
