Position Summary:
The Director of Sponsorship Strategy and Market Development directs the creation, sales, and management of non-dues revenue programs for IMN’s association clients. This role drives growth through sponsorships, exhibits, advertising, and strategic partnerships, ensuring exceptional fulfillment and strong, long-term partner relationships. The Director spearheads strategic planning, business outreach and market growth, contract negotiations, and execution of revenue initiatives across national conferences, regional meetings, webinars, digital and print advertising, and custom programs. Collaborating closely with internal teams and external stakeholders, this position ensures all efforts align with organizational objectives and deliver measurable value.
Strategic Sales & Revenue Growth The Director is responsible for driving organizational growth through innovative sponsorship initiatives. This includes:
Developing and executing comprehensive sales strategies for client events (annual meetings, regional conferences, specialty meetings) to ensure alignment with organizational goals.
Creating new revenue streams and expanding sponsorship programs to strengthen partnerships, maximize sponsorship revenue and grow IMN’s client portfolio.
Supporting RFP responses and new business pitches for IMN’s sales services.
Sponsor Relationship Management
Conduct regular conversations to review benefits, activation timelines, and ensure successful execution.
Manage programs, liaise with committees and sponsors, track prospects and deliverables.
Connect businesses with marketing platforms to maximize exposure through exhibits, ads, and sponsorships.
Manage sales and strategy, client relationships, and fulfillment for assigned clients.
Event & Activation Oversight
With team, ensure seamless onsite execution of sponsorship branding and deliverables.
Travel to events as needed to assist with sponsor fulfillment and provide staff direction and support.
Operational Excellence
Manage reporting and tracking of incoming revenue.
Proactively identify processes and platforms to improve sponsorship management, including prospect tracking, interaction history, and fulfillment.
Industry Engagement
Attend industry events to prospect new sponsors and strengthen relationships.
Technology Buildout & Research
Partner with IMN leadership and the sponsorship team to assess, recommend, and implement cutting-edge technology solutions that enhance sales tracking, deliverable management, and reporting capabilities.
Optimize CRM, advertising, and project management systems to drive efficiency, transparency, and seamless collaboration across client accounts.
Monitor and evaluate emerging sales and digital advertising tools, providing strategic recommendations to support innovation and long-term growth.
Collaboration & Engagement
Maintain a positive, empathetic and professional attitude toward customers and internal team at all times.
Communicate with colleagues and efficiently manage the escalation process as needed.

Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, Communications, or related field. CEM, CMP preferred.
10-12 years of relevant work experience in sponsorship sales, partnership development, or business development. Must have proven record of conference and sponsorship sales/marketing and be willing to evolve lasting business relationships and develop new business. Strong negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills. Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills. Must be highly proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); and have strong digital literacy with experience or a demonstrated ability to learn, adapt and implement new technology. Experience with CRM systems and marketing software as well as programs and platforms such as HubSpot Sales Entrprise, AdOrbit, Canva. Strong time management skills, with ability to manage numerous tasks and broader strategic initiatives simultaneously
